Within the framework of the Component (iv) Education and Awareness Raising – “Demonstration of Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Best Environmental Practices (BEP) in open burning practices in response to the Stockholm Convention on POPs” Project, the two contests including a Photo Contest with the theme of “Open burning: Impacts on Environment and Health” (for 15 to 20 years old) and a Poster Contest with the theme of “3Rs for a better tomorrow” (for 10 to 14 years old) have been organized in Vietnam.
A Launching ceremony of the two contests was held on 30 June 2016 in Ha Noi. The launching ceremony was organized with the attendance of over 100 people who were professional photographers, artists, pupils, students and media and news agencies. 01 trailer of the contests was produced and broadcasted widely all over the country.
With time of submission of the entries from 30 June to 31 August 2016, the two contests have received a large attention from the public and numerous entries from all over the country submitted: The Photo Contest received over 300 entries while over 2000 posters were drawn and submitted to the Poster Contest. The Fanpage (available at https://www.facebook.com/ongkinh.moitruong) of the contests has an average of over 7000 page views per week since the launching ceremony. The two panels of judges of the two contests gathered in Ha Noi in September to select the best entries and decided the winners.
Following up on this, on 22 November 2016 in Ha Noi, an Award ceremony of the two contests was organized to honor the winners. The winners, their parents and teachers enjoyed the event. Besides, the ceremony had a lot of participants including the panels of judges, VEA’s leaders and numerous reporters and journalists. A TV news about the ceremony was broadcasted on Ha Noi Television.
With regard to the Photo contest, there were 22 awards delivered to the winners, including 01 first prize, 02 second prizes, 03 third prizes, 14 consolation prizes and 02 People’s choice prizes.
With regard to the Poster contest, there were 10 awards delivered to the winners, including 01 first prize, 02 second prizes, 03 third prizes and 04 consolation prizes.
02 artworks won the first prizes of the two contests were selected to be sent to Austria for the competition of favourite artworks organized by UNIDO.
